[.art dump.]

On Friday, Dylan was kind enough to drive me up to get some paintings photographed. Here are the results of this, and a speed painting from Saturday.

The two traditional pieces are currently on their way to being made into prints at the Untapped Source. Soo, yeah. Cheers.

[.don't try to stop us.]

This has very little to do with drawing, but in 2009 I took a ridiculous trip up part of the East Coast. During the course of this week-long, solitary excursion of hitch-hiking, Greyhound-ing, and (in the beginning and end of all of it) catching airplanes, I shot about 9 or 10 rolls of B&W film (mostly Kodak, but one Ilford HP5, though that doesn't matter much). Starting in Chapel Hill, NC (where I went for a free parking lot show of the band The Love Language), then catching a bus up to Washington, DC for 3 days or so, and then finally on to New York City for another 3 days or so, I spent a bit of time photographically exploring the different cities, and generally just exploring. So, here are some of the shots I liked best from the first roll I got back, from NYC.

Eventually, I will make hand-printed copies of all of this, and perfect the values on each. But these are the scanned negatives, for now.

[.the concert.]

So, I sketched this out after work one night, while the Microdots were playing... A week ago yesterday? Yeah, that sounds right. Anyways, thought I'd just go ahead and share this. I'm doing some fixes on my website right now, and otherwise just continuing to work on paintings and the "Watcher in the Fall" book project. Publication date is coming up, so I have until the end of June to finish the book cover for it. Otherwise, just starting to do some other sketches for it (vehicle design, creature design, characters, environments, and other illustrations) and I may be designing a written language. I am gonna have a helluva body of work out of this.

Anyways, here's the Concert sketch. I may bring this into painting form in August or September, too.

[.this or that?.]

So, I'm doing portraits right now. And here's a couple of quick sketches for the next one. Major difference is in the background. V1 has a weird skinny forest in the background. V2 has curtains and a heart shaped key. And I can't decide which one I like better. So here are both sketches.

...

Edit: 4.34pm

I went with the forest. Here's a super-quick colour study:

I've decided I'm going to call it "Bitter Fruits". It's a self portrait (which is annoying, I hate doing them, but whatever), and it's named for the tattoo I have across my chest which says "The Bitter Fruit is Born of Anger". In the painting it's just going to say "Bitter Fruits" though. The final will be 10.5" by 22", oil on masonite.

[.updates and stuff.]

Sooo, here's some pre-colour painting.
(A few changes have been made between these shots and it's current state)

Aaaaaanndddd a detail shot...

[.previews.]

So, I had a thought this morning (just one though)... Why not share a little bit of what I'm currently working on with you? And what am I currently working on anyways? Jesu, who knows? Well, I'm working on a short comic called "Hissing Fauna" for one. And a book project for TOO Books, called "Watcher in the Fall", a real good bit of sci fi.

Since I am under strict orders not to share the book... Here's a little bit from "Hissing Fauna" for you...

[.generally.speaking...]

So, over the last week I've been very, very lax on the artwork. For that, I am sorry. I will have things soon to update with, including some sneak-peak sketches from the children's book I am currently collaboratively creating, and some preliminary artwork for my next comic, "Hissing Fauna".

But, for the moment, I'm relatively out of commission, because I have pneumonia.

And god, I still need to give you all the NYC day-trip photos. Soon, my darlings, soon.
